Jonas Lindvall exhibition and book launch at the 2015 London Design Festival / by Ashlee Lindvall

During this year’s London Design Festival, Skandium, the city’s foremost store dedicated to Scandinavian design, will present an exhibition of the architect and designer Jonas Lindvall to coincide with the launch of the new monograph Jonas Lindvall, Architecture and Form, published by Arvinius + Orfeus. The exhibition will feature a collection of works spanning more than twenty years.

As an architect he has created villas, hotels, restaurants and more recently, the interior of Stockholm’s Ersta Kyrka. Notable projects include Villa M2, completed in 2009, which featured in the Swedish-Danish crime series The Bridge and the interior of Gastrologik, a one Michelin star restaurant in Stockholm.

As a designer, Jonas Lindvall’s portfolio is equally diverse, ranging from furniture and lighting, to kitchens and bathrooms. He was awarded the Excellent Swedish Design award no less than four times in a row and won Elle Decoration Sweden’s Kitchen of the Year award in 2011 for K2, produced by Ballingslöv. Products designed by Lindvall can also be found in permanent museum collections around the world, including the V&A Museum in London and Stockholm’s Nationalmuseum.

Born in Malmö in southern Sweden, Lindvall studied interior architecture in Gothenburg and was a guest student of furniture design both at the Royal College of Art in London and Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen. In the mid-1990´s he returned to Malmö to open his own office.

An exponent of traditional craftsmanship, Jonas Lindvall creates new classics that reflect a spirit of modernity, whilst maintaining a profound respect for skills and techniques of the past. From the traditional turned chairs of the 18th century, which gave rise to Stolab’s Miss Holly (2011), to the ecclesiastical references behind his Sacred Boxes series (2004-2008), all provide inspiration for contemporary ideas and solutions. This is a theme that is inherent throughout his work, and comes from a tireless curiosity and a passion for history.

Jonas Lindvall architect and designer will be held at Skandium, 247 Brompton Road, from 18th-27th September. (For opening times, see www.skandium.com.)
