Lindvall A & D recently submitted a proposal for a new residential development on the site of Trelleborg’s former gasworks, as part of Trelleborg's regeneration. Centrally located near the Old Water Tower, Stortorget and Trelleborg’s Stadsparken, the plan for the 1462m2 plot includes a 16-metre high apartment block and a row of seven terraced houses.
Originally built in 1912 by Helsingborg's city architect, Alfred Hellerström, Trelleborg gasworks were of great importance to the town until the decommissioning of the plant in 1971. The site of the gasworks' two brick buildings remains an area of high cultural and historical value, as a tribute to Trelleborg's growth.
Overlooking the park and with harbour views, the 16-metre high block with a red brick facade consists of 35 apartments, with public and retail spaces at ground level. Apartments range in size from 50-130m2 and are unique in terms of layout and design, including features such as mezzanine floors, double-height spaces and up to five-metre high sliding windows. Each apartment has its own private balcony or terrace.
Behind the main block, a row of seven terraced houses or "radhus" with a contrasting sheet metal facade will occupy the former site of the gasworks, with the same footprint, as stipulated by the local council. Each home has its own private garden and private roof terrace.
